Ryanair are resuming their flights from Liverpool airport to Porto on 2nd april 2009.

It's good news that they have resumed their flights - but one thing we have found flying with Ryanair is that their insurance is not worth adding to the flight cost. If they fail to get you on a flight they are obliged to put you on the next flight or the next convenient flight. If you then claim because you missed onward connections, which is covered by their insurance, it is not possible to get the right documentation from Ryaniar to satisfy Ryanair's insurance department! To explain - the insurance department requires a form from Ryanair. Ryanair sends out the wrong information. The insurance department requests the correct information. Copy sent to Ryanair. Ryanair send out the wrong information. After repeating this 3 times- gave up.

However, they are cheap and convenient and you can not accept the charge for their insurance.

I have always been unhappy about the add-on charges, especially the booking fee. However I heard recently that if you pay with a Visa Electron card thre is NO BOOKING FEE. Does anyone know if this also applies to Portuguese VISA cards, ie BPN. I have one but can find no use for it outside Portugal as it does not have the 3 digit security number that all on-line transactions require, but if I can avoid Ryan Air booking fee then it is worth using.

It is interesting that at the time that Ryanair started charging a booking fee they also started to promote their own credit card which has no booking charges on it. what a fantastic piece of marketing on the part of Ryanair!
